How to Make a Book Cover with InDesign CC and Typekit | Adobe Creative Cloud

Learn how to sync a Typekit font, then use contextual alternates to finesse your typography. Start from scratch, or download practice files [https://adobe.ly/2vyVMrN] for a head start. Steps below. Prep your project All you need is some text to typeset. In InDesign CC, choose the type tool, and then click and drag on your page to draw a text frame. Type your text, and then press Esc to exit the frame and automatically switch to the Selection tool. 1. Open book-cover.indd. 2. Choose the Type tool, then open the Font menu from the Control Panel. Click Add Fonts from Typekit to launch Typekit in your browser. 3. Type a few words from the book title in the preview field, then use filters to browse by classification, recommendation, and properties. 4. Click the thumbnail of a font you like. Then, click Sync All to use the entire family, or sync individual fonts as needed. Tip: We chose Bookmania because it has a multitude of alternate glyphs. 5. Back in InDesign, choose the Selection tool, then select a text frame in your design. 6. Choose the Type tool, open the Font menu, then click Apply Typekit Filter to see just the fonts you’ve synced. Select Bookmania to apply it. 7. Many Typekit fonts have glyphs you can use to beautify or customize the text appearance. Click inside a text frame, then highlight specific characters or character pairs. If alternate glyphs are available, a blue underline appears with an in-context menu. Click on an alternate to apply it. 8. To see all the glyphs for a selection, click the arrow in the in-context menu to open the Glyphs panel. Double click on a glyph to use it. Tip: Choose “Entire Font” in the “Show” menu to see all the glyphs available for the selected font. 9. Kern as needed. To do this quickly, place your cursor between the characters to be kerned, then hold Option/Alt key and tap the left and right arrow keys to add or reduce spacing. That's it! How to Create a Composite in Photoshop | Adobe Creative Cloud

Learn how to combine two images to create a Composite image in Adobe Photoshop CC. See steps below. Prep your project: 1. Download practice files (https://adobe.ly/2m3JrTI). Or, use your own! 2. Open Cup.jpg in Photoshop. 3. Duplicate cup layer. Create a mask: 1. Enter Select and Mask mode: Choose Select -- Select and Mask (This is a new feature in Photoshop, make sure to update to the latest version!). In Properties panel that appears, choose View -- On Black. In the mini tool palette at left, choose the Quick Selection Tool brush and adjust brush size and hardness from the top palette. 2. Paint inside cup and click OK to add a Layer Mask, indicated by a white hole where you painted, to the cup layer. 3. Open Ocean.jpg. To add it to cup document, Select All, Copy, make Cup doc active, and Paste. 4. Clip the ocean layer to the mask on the layer below. Create Clipping Mask: Layer -- Create Clipping Mask or Cmd/Ctrl + Option + G. 5. Drag ocean image so it fills the cup. Or Cmd/Ctrl + T to scale. 6. Add adjustment layer. Click “Add a new fill or adjustment layer” icon at bottom of Layers palette, then choose Gradient. 7. Choose Foreground to Transparent gradient swatch, OK. 8. Create Clipping Mask: Layer -- Create Clipping Mask or Cmd/Ctrl + Option + G. That’s it! How to Make a Custom Brush with Adobe Capture CC | Adobe Creative Cloud

Create a brush from a simple sketch. Start from scratch, or download practice files [https://learndownload.adobe.com/pub/learn/mobile-apps/make-a-custom-brush.zip] for a head start. Steps below. Prep your project: 1. Save the practice image (source-image.jpg) provided here to the Camera Roll on your mobile device, or use your own. 2. Download the Adobe Capture CC mobile app from the App Store for your iOS device, or from the Play Store for you Android. Open the app and sign in with your Adobe ID. 3. Tap Brushes from the top menu. Create a custom brush: 1. Tap Brushes from the menu. 2. Tap the image icon at the bottom, then tap Camera Roll. 3. Choose an image from your Camera Roll. 4. Tap areas to erase unwanted marks. Tap the checkmark. 5. Drag the resize handles (white dots) to position the blue box around the part of the image you want to use as the brush. 6. Tap Styles from the main menu. Tip: For the example in the video, we chose a style in the Photoshop CC & Adobe Sketch Brushes section. 7. Tap Presets. Adjust the Size, Spacing, and other settings as you like. Tap Done, or the right arrow on Android devices. 8. Choose the appropriate Creative Cloud Library. Tap Save. Apply style in Adobe Photoshop CC: 1. Open artwork in Photoshop. 2. Choose the Brush tool. 3. Choose your new brush from the Libraries panel (Window – Libraries). 4. Use the new brush to enhance your creation. That's it!
