Photoshop tutorial showing how to use the new Color and Luminance Range Masking controls in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) to quickly create a precise masking areas on your photo for applying local adjustments.

These new range masking tools in Camera Raw and Lightroom Classic CC can detect changes in lighting and contrasting edges based on color and tone. You can make quick initial masking selections with Adjustment Brushes or Radial Filter/Graduated Filter. Then refine your selection with the range masks, located under Auto-Mask in the Adjustment Brush tool options.

Luminance Range Mask 01:09

After applying a local adjustment with the Brush or Radial Filter/Graduated Filter, use Luminance Range Masking to refine the mask area based on the luminance range of the selection.

Color Range Mask 04:48

After applying a local adjustment with the Brush or Radial Filter/Graduated Filter, use Color Range Masking to refine the selection mask based on the colors sampled within the mask area.
